Ocean voyage supports HEF

Compulink Business Systems, Inc. has announced it will sponsor practice consultant John Pinto on his month-long, trans?Pacific sailing adventure to support the Hawaiian Eye Foundation (HEF). In what is being called the ?Voyage to EHR,? Pinto?s voyage is meant to help educate and support the ophthalmic community during the transition many practices are making this year to electronic health records.

In an effort to assess and address the vision-related effects of the increased use of technology in learning environments, the American Optometric Association (AOA) has conducted a survey and released a report.

In an effort to assist ophthalmologists in the market for an electronic health record (EHR) system as well as the vendors who make such systems, the Medical Information Technology Committee (MITC) of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) has developed a list of features that ophthalmology practices need from EHR systems to deliver quality patient care, enhance physician-to-physician communication, and meet the ?meaningful use? standards required by health care reform policies.

System wins award

The Premier Healthcare Alliance, which includes more than 2,500 U.S. hospitals and more than 75,000 other health care sites, has recognized an electronic documentation system (Connex, Welch Allyn) as one of 18 top medical device innovations introduced in 2010.

Four eye-care professionals will receive federal stimulus payments after attesting to meaningful use of the certified version of a proprietary electronic health record (EHR) system (OfficeMate/ExamWriter v10, Eyefinity).
