EURETINA 2026: Prof. Anat Loewenstein on what to expect in Vienna

Ahead of the 26th EURETINA Congress in Vienna, Anat Loewenstein, MD, a retina specialist in Tel Aviv and past president of EURETINA, previews the meeting's program and highlights. From the pre-congress EURETINA Innovation Spotlight (EIS) to the 17 invited-lecture EURETINA Sessions, symposia, instructional courses, and this year's new World Retina sessions, Loewenstein outlined what she expects to draw retina specialists from around the world to what EURETINA bills as the largest retina meeting globally.

Anat Loewenstein, MD, offered a wide-ranging preview of the 26th EURETINA Congress, taking place October 1–4, 2026, at the Vienna Congress & Convention Center under the presidency of Nicole Eter, MD, of Münster, Germany. Loewenstein, a retina specialist in Tel Aviv, is a past president of EURETINA and now serves on the organization's executive committee, with responsibility for finance among other portfolios.

Loewenstein opened with the pre-congress EURETINA Innovation Spotlight (EIS), scheduled for Wednesday, September 30, 2026. She described the meeting as a forum designed to bring physicians, researchers, investigators, and industry—including pharmaceutical companies, regulators, and investors—into direct contact, aimed at strengthening collaboration and communication across those communities.

The program is built around panel discussions and talks from industry leaders, innovators, regulators, investors, and retina specialists, spanning topics such as age-related macular degeneration (AMD), anti-VEGF–related retinal conditions, and inherited retinal diseases. Loewenstein also noted a keynote lecture by Jane Mosley.

Turning to the main congress, Loewenstein identified the EURETINA Sessions—17 invited-lecture sessions—as the scientific backbone of the meeting. Rounding out the program, Loewenstein pointed to instructional courses, keynote lectures, poster sessions, and wet labs, along with the new World Retina sessions debuting this year.
