Anat Loewenstein, MD, MHA

Professor of Ophthalmology, Vice President at the Tel Aviv Medical Center, Sidney Fox Chair of Ophthalmology at the Grey Faculty of Medicine at Tel Aviv University.

The main fields of interest are early detection and home monitoring for retinal disease and the investigation of drug administration and toxicity to the retina.

Has been leading several cutting-edge technologies implemented in large-scale clinical trials and in clinical settings, including the home OCT, a technology implementing virtual reality in vitreoretinal surgery to replace the standard operating microscope. She serves on advisory boards of most large current pharmaceutical companies.

Published more than 500 papers in peer-reviewed journals and contributed multiple chapters to ophthalmology textbooks.

Serves as the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal Case Reports in Ophthalmology and is an associate editor of Investigative Ophthalmology & Visual Science Journal, European Journal of Ophthalmology, and Ophthalmologica.

Has many additional national and international roles as a leader in the field of medicine and retinal disease: serves on the board of the European Society of Retina Specialists (Euretina), is a member in the Academia Ophthalmologica Internationalis, and leads mentorship groups of ARVO, Euretina, and programs sponsored by industry. In Israel, I am a member of the National Council of Surgery and a member of the Israeli Academy of Medicine.

Is the recipient of several awards, including the Michelson Award of the Macula Society, the Macula Society Arnall Patz Medal, the Pyron Award of ASRS, the Jules Gonin Lecture of the Retina Research Foundation Award, and the Merit of the Retina Society Award.

Serves on the Board of NotalVision, Pulsenmore, and Reveniocompanies as well as on the board of ESASO (European School for Advanced Studies in Ophthalmology).
