Cleveland Eye Bank Foundation to host third annual Virtual Vision Research Symposium

Scientists from globally renowned top medical institutions, including the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, University Hospitals Eye Institute, and Akron Children’s Hospital Vision Center, will present their latest research findings on major blinding disorders including children’s vision issues, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma.

Cleveland Eye Bank Foundation (CEBF) is bringing 10 researchers together from 3 pm to 5 pm Feb. 28 for a Virtual Vision Research Symposium.

“Leading scientists from globally renowned top medical institutions, namely, Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, University Hospitals Eye Institute, and Akron Children’s Hospital Vision Center, will present their latest research findings on major blinding disorders including children’s vision issues, age-related macular degeneration, and glaucoma,” Jonathan Lass, MD, said about the event in a news release. “They will provide possible future treatments of these diseases.”

The researchers participating are as follows:

  • Richard Hertle, MD, FAAO, FACS, FAAP, director of Pediatric Ophthalmology and Dr. Boomer and Jill Burnstine Chair in Pediatric Ophthalmology, Akron Children's Hospital

  • Faruk Örge, MD, professor, CWRU Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences; William R. and Margaret E. Althans Chair and Director, Center for Pediatric Ophthalmology and Adult Strabismus, UH Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital

  • Hong-Uyen Hua, MD, senior vitreoretinal surgery fellow, Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute

  • Sunil Srivastava, MD, ophthalmologist, specializing in uveitis and medical and surgical vitreoretinal diseases, Cole Eye Institute at the Cleveland Clinic

  • Irina Pikuleva, PhD, Carl Asseff MD Professor & Vice Chair for Research, Case Western Reserve University Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences
