ASCRS 2025: A museum exhibit inspired an award-winning alternative to traditional blepharoplasty

Patricia Buehler, MD, MPH, presented a poster and two patient films at the ASCRS annual meeting, focused on minimally-invasive blepharoplasty device Ziplyft (Osheru).

If you ask Patricia Buehler, MD, MPH, founder and CEO of Osheru, her minimally invasive blepharoplasty device was years—or millennia—in the making.

At the 2025 American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ASCRS) annual meeting, Dr. Buehler visited the Eye Care Network to speak about two presentations at this year's meeting, one film and one poster. She also provided backstory on the development of the device, which was inspired by an ancient Egyptian approach to eyelid surgery and which Dr. Buehler, a cataract and refractive surgeon, developed first through a series of at-home experiments.

Dr. Buehler won the Winning Pitch Challenge from Eyecelerator at the 2023 ASCRS meeting and the People's Choice Award in 2024. This year, Dr. Buehler shared a scientific film demonstrating two patients undergoing the noninvasive method, and also presented a poster featuring results from a prospective, multi-center study. In this video, she talks about the results from that 150-patient study, which evaluated both patient and clinician satisfaction following a minimally invasive lid surgery.
