Vistakon executive dies in plane crash

Pat Cummings, OD, Vistakon America's region vice president, professional development group, was killed in a plane crash July 11 in Florida.

-Pat Cummings, OD, Vistakon America’s region vice president, professional development group, was killed in a plane crash July 11 in Florida.

Dr. Cummings joined the company in 2003, according to Dave Brown, president of Vistakon Americas. “Pat was an extraordinary man, widely respected and admired by his colleagues and peers. He will be greatly missed by those of us who knew him,” he said.

A graduate of the Pacific University College of Optometry in Forest Grove, OR, where he served as an adjunct clinical faculty member, Dr. Cummings was part of a private group practice in Sheridan, WY. He served as a consulting optometrist at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Sheridan for more than 20 years and also was on staff at Sheridan Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Cummings was a fellow of the American Academy of Optometry, a member of the Aerospace Medical Association, and a charter member of the American Optometric Association (AOA) contact lens/cornea and sports vision sections. He was elected to the AOA Board of Trustees in 1994 and served as its president in 2002-2003.

Dr. Cummings was recognized twice as Wyoming Optometrist of the Year and once as the Great Western Optometrist.
