Visionary in Eye Care Award winners announced at EyeCon 2023

Inaugural awards honor 3 residents in ophthalmology, optometry, and retina

Three residents were recognized for their contributions in eye care, receiving the 2023 Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Award. The inaugural awards were presented during a ceremony at the Ophthalmology Times® and Optometry Times® EyeCon 2023 conference, which took place December 1 and 2 at the Marriott Sanibel Harbour Resort and Spa in Fort Myers, Florida.

The winners of the 2023 awards are:

  • Best in Ophthalmology: Moon Jeong Lee, MD, Wilmer Eye Institute, Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, Baltimore, Maryland.
  • Best in Optometry: Julie Song, OD, FAAO, SUNY College of Optometry, New York, New York.
  • Best in Retina: Marta Stevanovic, MD, Mass Eye and Ear, Harvard Medical School, Boston, Massachusetts.

The Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards program was designed to honor residents across 3 categories: ophthalmology, optometry, and retina.

Celebrating rising stars in these fields, the program shines a spotlight on individuals who have made exceptional contributions to patient care, research, and clinical practice.

The Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards aim to pay tribute to outstanding residents who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, and commitment to advancing the field of eye care.

A panel of clinicians in the eye care field reviewed all nominations, evaluating nominees based on their leadership, education/research, and patient care contributions. The awards underscore the importance of acknowledging and celebrating the exemplary achievements of residents in the evolving landscape of eye care.
