Article

Topcon Medical Systems has introduced a new computerized lensmeter (CL-300 Computerized Lensmeter) in U.S and Latin American markets.

Oakland, NJ-Topcon Medical Systems has introduced a new computerized lensmeter (CL-300 Computerized Lensmeter) in United States and Latin American markets.

According to Topcon, the new lensmeter incorporates many of the features from the company’s previous models and adds features such as an ultraviolet transmittance measurement function, multifocal lens measurement, automatic detection for single and progressive lenses, and a green-light reading beam to enhance lens measurement precision.

The new lensmeter is available in two models, one of which allows pupillary distance measurements.

In September, parent company Topcon Corp. will celebrate its 80th anniversary. The company started manufacturing optical equipment, such as binoculars and cameras, in 1932 in Japan. It expanded into Europe and the United States in 1970 and has since become a leading manufacturer in the eye-care market. In 2010, Topcon expanded into the therapeutic market with the acquisition of the glaucoma and retina business from OptiMedica Corp.

In the future, Topcon plans to focus on the preventive health-care field, including the development of advanced ophthalmic instruments and screening tests for diabetes.

“The achievements we have made to date have set a high standard for the future, and we are confident that we can deliver on this,” said Robert Gibson, vice president of marketing for Topcon Medical Systems. “With some interesting projects currently in the pipeline, we’re excited to continue leading the way in the medical device industry for many years to come.”
