Noteworthy colleagues, organizations honored by the AAO

Recognizing significant achievements and contributions to ophthalmology, several awards were presented to physicians and organizations during opening ceremonies of the 2005 annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).

Chicago-Recognizing significant achievements and contributions to ophthalmology, several awards were presented to physicians and organizations during opening ceremonies of the 2005 annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO).

“Celebrating heroes is vital to keeping an accurate historical record of the victories and triumphs of our long and colorful past,” said Susan H. Day, MD, AAO president.

The recipients and their awards were:

• Arnall Patz, MD, Laureate of the AAO

• Lions Eye Foundations of the United States, Distinguished Service Award

• Rotary International, Special Recognition Award

• Marilyn T. Miller, MD, MS, Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award

• Alan L. Robin, MD, Outstanding Humanitarian Service Award

• Anthony C. Arnold, MD, Straatsma Award for Excellence in Residency Education

• Prof. Allen Foster, FRCS, FRCOphth, International Blindness Prevention Award

• B. Thomas Hutchinson, MD, Presidential Volunteer Service Award

In addition, Dr. Day invoked her right as president to select guests of honor at the 2005 annual meeting. Her special guests were patients, teachers, and residents.
