The New York Eye and Ear Infirmary of Mount Sinai (NYEE) has announced the opening of its Center for Refractive Solutions, the first in New York, New York, and one of few in the United States. The center offers a range of treatment options for refractive correction, including cataract and IOL surgery, as well as corneal refractive procedures aimed at reducing patients’ reliance on glasses and contact lenses.
The center, located at 310 East 14th St in Manhattan, is dedicated to patients seeking these services and provides coordinated care in a single location.
“We’re now able to offer our patients more complete and efficient access to premium services, including IOL implants, laser-assisted cataract surgery, and custom LASIK,” said Kira Manusis, MD, director of the Center for Refractive Solutions and codirector of cataract services at NYEE. “We’ve centralized all the necessary equipment and services to deliver an efficient and thorough evaluation for patients in just 1 day—no small advantage for individuals who lead busy lives.”
The Center for Refractive Solutions features advanced corneal and ocular imaging technology that allows specialists to image and map multiple layers of the cornea and accurately measure the eye’s dimensions. This enables the creation of surgical plans tailored to each patient’s needs and lifestyle.
Surgeons at the center offer various cataract surgery options based on factors such as eye health, daily activities, and visual requirements. Each patient receives a customized plan using current lens technology to optimize vision and reduce reliance on glasses.
The center also provides minimally invasive refractive procedures to address vision problems such as difficulty seeing at different distances and blurry vision. Available treatments include LASIK, wavefront LASIK, photorefractive keratectomy, EVO implantable collamer lens, and refractive lens exchange procedures.
“NYEE is delighted to offer a state-of-the-art center offering patients innovative solutions to address their complex refractive issues,” said James C. Tsai, MD, MBA, president of NYEE, and the Delafield-Rodgers Professor and Chair of Ophthalmology at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. “We have assembled together an experienced clinical team with the most leading-edge refractive technology.”
Paul Sidoti, MD, chair of ophthalmology at NYEE, added, “This new center will provide a venue for our surgeons and staff to deliver the highest-quality services to those seeking premium cataract, IOL, and corneal refractive surgery.”
