Hundred Vision unveils an eye-tracking system to objectively assess visual function
Key Takeaways
- Luma is an eye-tracking and assessment tool that helps eye care professionals gain objective insights into visual performance, including oculomotor performance, binocular vision and reading-related visual function, beyond traditional visual acuity testing.

Hundred Vision, a Slovenia-based company, globally launched Luma, an eye-tracking and assessment tool that helps eye care professionals gain objective insights into visual performance, including oculomotor performance, binocular vision and reading-related visual function, beyond traditional
According to the company press release, Luma is intended to help clinicians develop a fuller picture of visual performance than visual acuity alone can provide. Although acuity shows how clearly a patient sees, it does not reveal how the eyes fixate, move between targets, track motion, or work together during visually demanding tasks. Luma aims to bring measurable data on these functions into a structured assessment, supplementing patient-reported symptoms and standard examination findings.
How Luma works
The system combines a Tobii eye-tracking sensor, an interactive display, a dedicated keypad for patient responses, and assessment software. For certain binocular vision tests, patients wear red-green dichoptic glasses so that each eye can be shown a different visual stimulus.
During guided testing, Luma records gaze position and eye-movement characteristics. Measured parameters include fixation stability, saccadic accuracy and latency, smooth pursuit performance, binocular alignment, and vergence responses. Reading assessments also can capture fixation patterns, regressions, and reading speed.
The first version of Luma offers 11 tests across five domains: symptoms, foundational visual function, oculomotor function, binocular alignment and function, and reading assessment. Preset workflows are tailored to five age groups starting at age 3, with tests selected to reflect developmental stages and differing visual demands. Clinicians also can choose specialized workflows or build custom test batteries suited to their assessment goals. To account for the possible effects of visual fatigue, the testing order generally places sensory and eye-movement assessments ahead of the more demanding binocular tasks.
“An eye tracker can generate a huge amount of information. More data does not automatically mean a better clinical decision,” said Matic Vogrič, CEO of Hundred Vision.
Reporting for clinicians, patients, and other providers
How Luma presents its data is a core feature of the system, ie, it generates structured reports for three audiences. Clinician reports include quantitative measurements, eye-movement visualizations, recording-quality data, and comparisons with age-referenced values when available. Reports for patients or parents present selected findings in more accessible terms, and interprofessional summaries help clinicians communicate with other providers involved in a patient’s care.
Luma also supports repeat testing, so clinicians can compare measurements across visits and track changes in visual performance over time.
Tamara Petrosyan, OD, FOVDR, chief of clinical and scientific affairs at Hundred Vision, stressed that objective findings must be considered within a broader professional evaluation. “Luma doesn’t replace your judgment. It helps you focus it,” she said.
The system does not diagnose conditions or recommend treatment; its results must be interpreted together with patient history, symptoms, and other examination findings.
Expanding Hundred Vision’s digital eye care portfolio
Luma extends the company’s earlier work in digital vision training, including its Eye Hero platform. Luma adds objective assessment and measurement it Eye Hero, which focuses on vision training. Hundred Vision plans to eventually link assessment, training, and progress monitoring more closely, although those integrations are separate from what Luma currently offers.
Hundred Vision offers demonstrations of its assessment workflows, eye-movement measurements, and reporting features. More information is available at
Regulatory status
Luma is a measurement and assessment tool and is not a substitute for examination and professional judgment by a licensed eye care provider. The system has not been cleared or approved by the US FDA or certified under the European Union Medical Device Regulation, and its use is subject to applicable local requirements.
