Chicago-Heidelberg Engineering GmbH announces an ophthalmic picture archiving and communication system (PACS) platform.

“The HEYEX PACS software platform will not only support Heidelberg Engineering devices, but also integrate imaging devices of other manufacturers and diagnostic data into a centralized database,” said Kester Nahen, PhD, managing director of Heidelberg Engineering.

The platform will enable customers to access, review, and compare all clinical images in one central application.

“HEYEX PACS allows us to offer a comprehensive image management and device integration platform to eye-care professionals, ranging from small practices to large hospitals,” Dr. Nahen said. “Assessing the demands of our customers, it is clear that PACS technology is of critical importance when dealing with the increasing complexity of diagnostic imaging. The HEYEX PACS will be an integral part of our standard imaging device offer.”

HEYEX PACS evolves from the known HEYEX (Heidelberg Eye Explorer) image management, networking, and device control software incorporated in every Heidelberg Engineering instrument, according to the company.

HEYEX PACS will initially be launched in Europe. Not all modules are currently available for sale in the United States, according to the company.
