From AI to IOLs: Highlights from EnVision Summit 2026
Take a look at some, but certainly not all, that you may have missed from this year’s EnVision Summit.
The EnVision Summit—billed as the “ultimate gathering place for ophthalmic and optometric professionals”—has come to a close for 2026. In a relaxed setting on the sunny beaches of Puerto Rico, physicians can reconnect with industry connections and eye care professionals and bring their family along for the ride.
“By physicians for physicians,” the EnVision Summit brings optometrists and ophthalmologists together in one space to learn and grow as professionals. Many topics are covered, ranging from practice management to the growing use of AI in the industry.
Ophthalmology Times was on-site at this year’s summit, speaking with more than a dozen speakers and presenters at the meeting about their sessions, the current hot topics in clinical care, and their experience in Puerto Rico. These topics ranged widely, from the use of artificial intelligence (AI) in clinical care to the latest treatments for dry eye disease to educational needs across eye care and beyond.
These discussions included, but were not limited to, conversations with:
- Shameema Sikder, MD, the director of the Center of Excellence for Ophthalmic Surgical Education and Training at Johns Hopkins Medicine, who presented in a session titled “Challenges and Success in Clinical Implementation of AI for Diabetic Retinopathy Screening/AI and Cataract Surgery.”
- Julia Pulliam, OD, FAAO, an assistant professor of ophthalmology and visual sciences at Washington University Medicine, who presented in a session titled “Optometry and Uveitis.”
- Nicole Bajic, MD, an ophthalmologist at the Cleveland Clinic Cole Eye Institute, who presented as part of the Glaucoma Educational Track.
- Rahul Tonk, MD, a cornea, cataract, and refractive surgeon at The Princeton Eye Group, who presented as part of the Cataract/Refractive and Cornea Educational Tracks, as well as in the Emerging Therapeutic Advancements in Dry Eye Disease Management Spotlight Symposium.
- Cathleen McCabe, MD, an ophthalmologist and cataract surgeon at The Eye Associates, who presented in a session titled “Breakfast and NonCE Product Theater: Know Your Dry Eye: Navigating the Challenges of Real-World Dry Eye Cases,“ and was part of the Cataract/Refractive Educational Track.
- Eva Kim, MD, a cataract and refractive surgeon and the front range medical director for ICON Eyecare, who presented as part of the Cataract/Refractive Educational Track.

It’s so unique to have a meeting like that—that allows for you to bring your family and feel like you don’t have to disconnect from your family in order to connect with the things that you love about ophthalmology.
