Jennifer Loh, MD: Hi, my name is Jennifer Loh and I'm an ophthalmologist with a focus on cataract and refractive surgery practicing in Miami, Florida.

Today, I had the honor of presenting in the Advances in Cataract Surgery Symposium with several of my esteemed colleagues.

We had a great lively discussion on the new technologies in cataract surgery. Everything from advances in biometry to IOL formula calculations, as well as intraoperative technology such as femtosecond laser, augmented reality during surgery and the digital marker microscopes that you have where you can actually align the astigmatism access to your patient, as well as different techniques for enhancing preoperative evaluation of the patients.

Even with all the great technologies that we have today we still have to have a great ocular surface prior to surgery, because if you have a poor ocular surface, all the diagnostics preoperatively and intraoperatively won't work as well.

Again, we had a great discussion interacting between optometry and ophthalmology, how we can comanage patients and best collaborate and the handoff of our patients between clinical to surgical and beyond.
