Examining the examiner: New assessments will evaluate physician competence

The traditional paradigm for medical education in this country has rested with the "apprenticeship" ("see one, do one") model. Historically this model for ophthalmic residency training programs has performed well in the knowledge and skills transfer areas of medicine.
