Sarah Wester, MD:

Hi, my name is Sarah Wester, and I'm so excited to be here at EnVision in Puerto Rico. I am a clinical professor of ophthalmology. I do oculoplastic surgery at the University of Miami, at Bascom Palmer. I'm really delighted to have the support of Orbis, which helped support us in the Women Leaders In Eye Health session. We did a coffee hour the first day of the EnVision meeting, and it was really, truly amazing to bring eight different leaders together from across the globe to talk about their experiences in leadership. And Orbis was amazingly generous in providing funding for this session, as well as the reception that followed. It's through sponsorships like this that we can bring women together and help learn about leadership and how we can support each other in the world of ophthalmology.

We had eight different leaders from different avenues, different specialties, different backgrounds, talk about what leadership experiences they've had as well as what leadership means to them. And people were able to share little vignettes, and then we really had a panel discussion, and we got the room involved a little bit, talking about leadership and how you can grow as a leader. Some of the obstacles that we might face as women trying to get into leadership roles, and how we handle those and how we can help support and lift up each other.
