E-prescribing capability added to Kowa's EMR software

Los Angeles-Kowa Optimed and EMRlogic Systems Inc. have integrated an e-prescribing solution (DrFirst Rcopia) into proprietary electronic medical record (EMR) management software (activEHR).

The software is designed to offer a knowledge-based practice management core and inform the user of best practice protocols and information to aid in clinical decision-making, outcome tracking, and overall patient care.

The integration of the e-prescribing technology into the EMR software allows eye-care professionals to submit electronic prescriptions easily and securely “to any retail or mail-order pharmacy while accessing comprehensive clinical information for each patient,” said Ian Lane, OD, executive vice president of technology for Kowa Optimed Inc. Accessible patient information includes drug-drug and drug-allergy interaction checking, complete prescription histories, and drug formulary checks.

The application is 2011/2012 compliant and has been certified as an EHR module by the Certification Commission for Health Information Technology.
