Port, Switzerland-Ziemer Group AG now will handle worldwide marketing, sales, and support initiatives for an automated microkeratome (Amadeus II, SIS Surgical Instrument Systems Ltd., a Ziemer Group company) and all associated accessories. The product line had been marketed and distributed by Advanced Medical Optics Inc. (AMO) since its debut in 1999.

Ziemer Group will be the only ophthalmology-focused company providing a selection of blade- and laser-based dissection technologies, according to the company. AMO, which recently purchased Intralase Corp., will concentrate on refractive products for developing LASIK flaps with femtosecond laser technology.

Ziemer plans to set up distribution agreements with former or new distributors in all countries interested in the product line.
