Dr. Martin is an assistant clinical professor of ophthalmology at the State University of New York Stony Brook and is chief ophthalmologist at St. Catherine of Sienna Hospital. In addition, he devotes time to teaching resident ophthalmologists at the Northport Veterans Administration Medical Center. For the last several years, Dr. Martin has been selected for inclusion in "Top Doctors: New York Metro Area" by Castle Connolly Medical Ltd. He has also been selected to receive “Patient Choice" and "Compassionate Doctor" awards.
Dr. Martin is board certified by the American Board of Ophthalmology. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American College of Surgeons, the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery, and is a member of the Medical Society of the State Of New York, the Suffolk County Medical Society, and the New York State Ophthalmologic Society.

Dr. Aker is a distinguished graduate of the United States Military Academy at West Point and earned his medical degree from New York Medical College. In his desire to maintain the highest possible standards as a surgeon, he became a charter member of the American College of Eye Surgeons and has served as President of both the College as well as its certifying board, the American Board of Eye Surgery.
On various occasions, Dr. Aker has participated in FDA studies and has lectured extensively throughout the years at meetings such as the American Academy of Ophthalmology, the American Society for Cataract & Refractive Surgery and the American College of Eye Surgeons. Dr. Aker has also lectured nationally and internationally on functional vision as it pertains to intraocular lenses.
