VWI challenges ECPs to become Eco-Heroes

The Vision West Inc. (VWI) Eye-Eco Challenge-represented by its Eco-Hero ECP-is a commitment to curtail energy use during summer months. VWI will award a special prize to the independent practice that reports the best energy-saving results.

Oceanside, CA-Forget about Batman, Iron Man, and Indiana Jones. This summer, the real heroes are eye-care professionals (ECPs) who commit to the Vision West Inc. (VWI) summer energy-saving program to become Eco-Heroes in their own practices.

The VWI Eye-Eco Challenge-represented by its Eco-Hero ECP-is a commitment to curtail energy use during summer months. VWI will award a special prize to the independent practice that reports the best energy-saving results. ECPs are encouraged to review energy usage in their practices and set goals with staff members to reduce energy consumption. Each participating practice will set its own benchmarks, track its own progress, and at the end of August, report their energy-saving results to VWI.

Joseph C. Mallinger, OD, MBA, FAAO, president and chief executive officer of VWI, said, "We implemented this program in our own offices, with a 31% decrease in energy costs during the first month."
