Safe capsule bag cleaning with a new micro coaxial tip

Khiun Tjia of the Netherlands believes that the new micro coaxial Aqualase tip (Alcon) is a promising tool for safe capsular bag cleaning and that treatment of the equatorial region using the tip could reduce posterior capsule opacification (PCO).

Khiun Tjia of the Netherlands believes that the new micro coaxial Aqualase tip (Alcon) is a promising tool for safe capsular bag cleaning and that treatment of the equatorial region using the tip could reduce posterior capsule opacification (PCO).

Using the Aqualase modality of the Infiniti machine, soft cataract procedures were performed with a prechop technique and Aqualase assisted lens aspiration. Low aspiration flow and vacuum and 100% Aqualase bursts parameters were set for capsular bag cleaning. The Aqualase tip was used for 360° access to the bag through two 2.2 mm opposite incisions.

Although only a limited number of cases used the prototype tip, it became clear to Tjia that 360° access to the equatorial region could be achieved and posterior capsule cleaning could be performed over the entire visible surface.

Tjia believes the new micro coaxial tip holds great promise for safe capsular bag cleaning.
