San Diego-Ophthonix Inc. has earned its third patent within 4 months for a process that uses wavefront-sensing technology to determine refraction.

The company plans to use the patent to help create the first completely customized eyeglasses.

The previous two patents address the material and manufacturing process for producing the lens, according to Andreas Dreher, PhD, the company's chief executive officer. The newest patent will measure higher-order aberrations, which will help Ophthonix create a lens with higher-order correction.
