OWL, WIO reception includes award, panel discussion presentations

A joint reception hosted by Ophthalmic Women Leaders (OWL) and Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) featured the presentation of the Suzanne Veronneau-Troutman Award to an outstanding female ophthalmologist. In addition, a panel discussion focused on the importance of working together across diverse professional disciplines in the eye-care field.

Chicago-A joint reception hosted by Ophthalmic Women Leaders (OWL) and Women in Ophthalmology (WIO) featured the presentation of the Suzanne Veronneau-Troutman Award to an outstanding female ophthalmologist. In addition, a panel discussion focused on the importance of working together across diverse professional disciplines in the eye-care field.

WIO President Mildred Olivier, MD, presented the 2014 Suzanne Veronneau-Troutman Award to Bonnie An Henderson, MD, of the Ophthalmic Consultants of Boston.

OWL President Marsha Link, PhD, introduced the event’s theme-“It Takes A Village: Integrated Approach to Quality Care”-which featured a panel discussion on the importance of working together across diverse professional disciplines in the eye-care field to achieve the highest level of patient care. The panel consisted of:

  • Moderator: Jane Rady, Divisional Vice President, Business Development & Communications, Abbott Medical Optics.

  • Linda Christmann, MD, MBA, Incoming President of WIO. Dr. Christmann is currently Regional Chief Medical Officer for three acute care hospitals in Florida.

  • Nick Tarantino, OD, Chief Clinical and Regulatory Officer at AcuFocus.

  • Lisa Arbisser, MD, Clinical Adjunct Associate Professor at the University of Utah at the John A. Moran Eye Center.

  • Candace Cantonese, Senior Cataract Account Manager at Alcon Laboratories.

The Monday night event at the Hyatt McCormick Place was sponsored by Ora Inc., as well as contributing sponsors Imprimis Pharmaceuticals and Nicox. The evening concluded with a wine tasting courtesy of the Good Life Wine Collective, Napa Valley, CA.
