The crystalens Five-O from eyeonics has been redesigned with features that include: optic size increased from 4.5 to 5 mm; plates are parallel rather than trapezoidal; 17% greater surface area for contact between the optic, plates, and capsular bag; and 90% more plate arc length.

The crystalens Five-O from eyeonics has been redesigned with features that include: optic size increased from 4.5 to 5 mm; plates are parallel rather than trapezoidal; 17% greater surface area for contact between the optic, plates, and capsular bag; and 90% more plate arc length.

The lens' larger optic will increase the ease with which surgeons can implant the lens, according to the company. The parallel pockets will lead to greater plate motion by creation of a uniform width pocket in the capsular bag. The increase in surface area and arc length will enhance predictability and capsular bag support.

The new crystalens is inserted easily with an injector through a 2.8-mm incision.
