James (Jim) Mazzo has joined the board of directors of AcuFocus Inc. as chairman.

Irvine, CA-AcuFocus Inc. announces that James (Jim) Mazzo has joined the company’s board of directors as chairman.

Mazzo was previously senior vice president, Abbott, and president of Abbott Medical Optics Inc. (AMO). He assumed the position of AMO president following the company’s Feb. 2009 acquisition by Abbott. Previously, he was chairman and chief executive officer of Advanced Medical Optics, Inc., following the company’s 2002 spin‐off from Allergan. Prior to leading AMO, Mazzo progressed through a 22‐year career at Allergan, where he held a variety of senior executive‐level positions.

“We are delighted to welcome Jim to the AcuFocus board and look forward to seeing the company benefit from his years of experience as a global leader in the ophthalmic arena,” said Charles Warden, Versant Ventures Managing Director, fellow board member, and past chairman of the board.
