Irvine, CA-An open letter urging Congress to acknowledge obesity as a disease and support legislation to ensure access to all effective treatments marks the start of the second phase of Allergan’s Choosing Health over Obesity Inspiring Change through Empowerment (CHOICE) Campaign, which promotes obesity prevention and treatment as well as acceptance of all effective treatments, including weight-loss surgery.

In addition to marketing an adjustable gastric banding system (Lap-Band), Allergan markets products for dry eye, glaucoma, and other eye conditions, as well as neurosciences, medical aesthetics, and urology.

“As the leader in the obesity-intervention market, Allergan remains committed to reducing the prevalence of obesity and the burden it has on those affected by the disease,” said David E.I. Pyott, Allergan’s board chairman, president, and chief executive officer. “This will only happen if consumers, healthcare professionals, and Congress work together to resolve this epidemic.”
