Pinellas Park, FL-Reaching out at the grass roots level to help meet the eye health needs of Hispanic consumers, Transitions Optical Inc. and JCPenney Optical supported the National Alliance for Hispanic Health recently by providing complimentary vision screenings during its ¡Vive Tu Vida! Get Up! Get Moving! family health fair event in East Los Angeles.

In addition to the screenings, the event provided the opportunity to present information on the importance of healthy sight and ultraviolet (UV) protection, including steps Hispanic people can take to protect their eyes for the future.

"Hispanics are at higher risk for developing certain eye diseases-such as cataracts and macular degeneration-which have been linked to extensive exposure to UV rays, making it critical for them to have access to regular eye exams and to protect their eyes from UV year round," said Martha Rivera, Hispanic marketing manager, Transitions.

¡Vive Tu Vida! Get Up! Get Moving! is the largest event-based program dedicated to promoting physical activity and overall health in Hispanic communities. Ten local events are scheduled for various communities throughout the year.
