EyeCon 2025 celebrates Visionary in Eye Care Resident Award winners
Residents across ophthalmology, optometry, and retina care were recognized for leadership, research, and dedication to advancing patient care.
The recipients of this year’s Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards were revealed at the Ophthalmology Times and Optometry Times EyeCon® 2025 conference, held September 26 and 27 at the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort, in Hollywood, Florida.
The program celebrates outstanding residents in 3 key areas—Ophthalmology, Optometry, and Retina Care—highlighting their achievements in leadership, education and research, and patient care.
The 2025 awardees are:
- Best in Ophthalmology: Sanchay Gupta, MD, MBA, Baylor College of Medicine
Best in Optometry: Mallory Wright, OD, UAB School of Optometry - Best in Retina Care: Daniel Rodriguez, MD, PhD, Baylor College of Medicine
The Visionary in Eye Care Resident Recognition Awards were established to shine a spotlight on the next generation of leaders in ophthalmology and optometry. Program directors nominate residents who demonstrate exceptional performance in patient care, research, and leadership.
The initiative is designed not only to acknowledge the remarkable achievements of residents but also to strengthen connections between mentors and emerging professionals. By fostering collaboration, the program aims to shape the future of ophthalmology, optometry, and retina care.
Residents eligible for consideration are those enrolled in US ophthalmology or optometry residency programs between July 1, 2024, and June 30, 2025.
