Dallas-Essilor of America Inc. (EOA) recently announced the recipients of its 2006 Essilor Optical Technology Grants. The grants are awarded to four schools or colleges of optometry that exhibit their commitment to growing the industry through new advancements and technologies.

The University of California, Berkeley, received $20,000 for equipment to start a new outreach clinic.

The Ohio State University received $20,000 to update its eyewear gallery and patient welcoming center.

"Essilor has always been committed to supporting education programs that are dedicated to furthering the optical industry. We realize the optometry students of today are the industry leaders of tomorrow," said Rodney Tahran, OD, FAAO, EOA vice president of professional relations and clinical affairs.

This is the fifth year that EOA has awarded technology grants to optometry schools. During that time, the company has awarded more than $300,000.
