Founded in 1974 in Portland by Ronald Syth and Bob Hagen, Optical Plastics handles specialty orders from all over the country. The business occupies the same building as SOLA Custom Coatings-a division of SOLA International Inc., which merged with Carl Zeiss in a deal that was final in March.

In 2004, Optical Plastics became the first laboratory to receive the Vision Service Plan (VSP) People First Lab of the Year Award, the company reports.
