The clinical care and residency programs at Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, University of Miami School of Medicine, were recognized as part of

Ophthalmology Times'

2006 Best Program Awards.

Each year, the magazine conducts a poll of chairmen and residency directors in ophthalmology programs across the United States. Categories include best overall, best clinical care, best research, and best residency programs.

Lauri B. Jorgensen, publisher of Ophthalmology Times, presented the award to Eduardo Alfonso, MD, professor of ophthalmology and the Edward W.D. Norton Chair in Ophthalmology, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, and Steven Gedde, MD, associate professor of ophthalmology and residency program director, Bascom Palmer Eye Institute, who accepted the award on behalf of Carmen Puliafito, MD, chairman of the institute.

The award was presented during the Bascom Palmer Eye Institute's alumni party at the Venetian Hotel Sunday evening.
