Alcon adds new disposable toric, multifocal contact lenses

Alcon Laboratories has announced the addition of toric and multifocal contact lenses to its portfolio of one-day contact lenses, Dailies AquaComfort Plus.

Fort Worth, TX-Alcon Laboratories has announced the addition of toric and multifocal contact lenses to its portfolio of one-day contact lenses, Dailies AquaComfort Plus.

“The daily disposable modality is the fastest-growing contact lens segment,” said Jim Murphy, vice president and general manager for U.S. Vision Care at Alcon. “Patients with astigmatism or presbyopia are part of that segment and (this portfolio) provides them with a new option for a one-day contact lens.”

The toric lenses are specifically designed for people with astigmatism. They are available in an expanded parameter range, with over 800 more parameters than the company’s Focus Dailies toric contacts lenses, including three industry standard cylinder powers of -0.75, -1.25, and -1.75 D.

There are 10 total axels available at +/- 20° of 90 and 180, in 10° steps. Scribe marks are found at 3 and 9 o’clock to ensure a precise fit and to measure rotation.

The multifocal contact lenses are designed for the presbyopic patient and offer the design and parameters of the company’s Air Optix Aqua multifocal contact lens. They include three levels of add power to allow fitting of advanced, as well as emerging patients with presbyopia in a binocular fashion.

The distance powers range from +6 to -10 in 0.24 D steps. They are available in trial 5 lens packs as well as 30 and 90 packs.

The lenses were also presented during SECO last week, and will again be shown during Vision Expo East next week in New York City.
