Ziemer Ophthalmic Systems AG announces it has received clearance by the FDA to market the Da Vinci femtosecond surgical laser system.

The system's state-of-the-art laser technology generates shorter, smaller, lower-energy infrared laser pulses that dissect corneal tissue with unprecedented smoothness and precision, according to the company.

Shipment of the system, which designed for a wide range of applications in corneal surgery, is expected in June 2006.
