Ziemer Group to take on sales, marketing of keratome

Port, Switzerland-Ziemer Group AG will assume responsibility for the worldwide sales, marketing, and support activities for an automated microkeratome (Amadeus II) and all related accessories and consumables.

The product line is engineered and manufactured by a Ziemer Group company, SIS Surgical Instrument Systems Ltd. The line had been marketed and distributed by Advanced Medical Optics (AMO) under an exclusive marketing agreement with SIS since its 1999 launch.

Frank Ziemer, president and chief executive officer of Ziemer Group and SIS, said Ziemer has now developed its own worldwide marketing and distribution systems to provide customer support.

In addition to the automated microkeratome system, Ziemer offers a femtosecond laser (Femto LDV) named after Leonardo Da Vinci. The first units are in use in the United States. Systems will be demonstrated in a wet lab at the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery meeting in San Diego later this month.
