ASCRS 2025: Weijie Violet Lin, MD, ABO, shares highlights from a 5-year review of cross-linking complications

The retrospective study assessed corneal cross-linking complications at Wills Eye Hospital from 2018 to 2023.

At the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) annual meeting in Los Angeles, California, the Eye Care Network met with Weijie Violet Lin, MD, ABO. An assistant professor at the Weill Cornell department of ophthalmology in New York, Dr. Lin was previously a cornea fellow at Wills Eye Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Her presentation focused on a study of cross-linking complications at Wills Eye Hospital over a 5-year time period, ranging from 2018 to 2023. The research focused on persistent epithelial defects, corneal haze, and infiltrates.

Dr. Lin shared findings about the complications, including assessments of socioeconomic factors and their impact on patient outcomes. She also highlighted applicable clinical insights from the research, such as pearls for prioritizing patients with specific risk factors. "For some of those patients that do have these factors that we're seeing are more likely to be associated with development of complications, I would consider putting those patients first in the line for epi-on crosslinking when it becomes available," Dr. Lin advised.
