To SWAP or not to SWAP? When to use function test
San Diego-Shortwave automated perimetry (SWAP), a visual function-specific test, is useful in identifying patients who may develop glaucoma and those with glaucoma who may have progressive disease. SWAP is more sensitive than standard automated perimetry (SAP), but inherent limitations in the test warrant waiting for a more refined version of the test, according to Pamela Sample, PhD, professor of ophthalmology, University of California, San Diego.
