The North American Neuro-Ophthalmology Society (NANOS), in alliance with the Spencer S. Eccles Health Sciences Library at the University of Utah, is offering the Neuro-Ophthalmology Virtual Education Library (NOVEL).

NANOS, a professional neuro-ophthalmologic organization that seeks to further the field through research, education, and ongoing clinical discussion, is a free, open-access source of digital content designed for the education of any healthcare professional, at any level of experience.

NOVEL offers two curricula for neuro-ophthalmology, both hosted on Stat!Ref (Teton Data Systems, TDS): NANOS Illustrated Curriculum and NANOS Examination Techniques for Neuro-Ophthalmology (NExT).

The NANOS Illustrated Curriculum comprises a collection of “illustrated” resources designed to supplement students, residents, fellows, clinicians, and academicians.

Learning resources

Learning resources come in a variety of formats, designed to facilitate differing learning styles. In addition, learners are provided access to the foundational textbook Walsh & Hoyt’s Clinical Neuro-Ophthalmology: 6th Edition as well as links to other relevant titles such as Neuroimaging in Ophthalmology: 2nd Edition, Neurology of Eye Movements: 5th Edition, and Eye Movement Disorders in Clinical Practice.

The NANOS Examination Techniques for Neuro-Ophthalmology (NExT) is another structured digital resource designed to supplement learners. The mission of NexT is to hone physical examination skills and techniques to optimize clinical encounters with patients with visual and neurological complaints. NExT is outlined into 14 sections for beginner, intermediate and advanced learners. Additionally, NExT covers ACGME’s 6 core competencies. Similar to the Illustrated Curriculum, a link to Walsh & Hoyt’s Clinical Neuro-Ophthalmology: 6th Edition is included.

NOVEL is an educational tool that has international impact, used in more than 150 countries and constantly expanding. The NANOS Illustrated Curriculum and the NANOS Examination Techniques for Neuro-ophthalmology are available through academic libraries and also individuals with a license through Stat!Ref.

Contact Stat!Ref (TDS) for any questions about the NANOS products: call 800-901-5494 or email support@tetondata.com.
