Refractec introduces template for simple, consistent CK

Refractec presents the OptiPoint Corneal Template, a device designed to allow surgeons to achieve more consistent and accurate NearVision conductive keratoplasty (CK).

The ophthalmic device manufacturer, which pioneered the CK procedure, developed the corneal template to address technical challenges that surgeons must overcome to achieve optimal refractive results. These include proper centration and marking of treatment; appropriate hand position; correct placement and depth of Keratoplast tip; and accurate amount and consistency of pressure on the cornea.

Prior to the development of the template, performing NearVision CK required that surgeons control centration, pressure, and the entry angle of the Keratoplast tip manually. The new template regulates all of these variables to bring a new level of consistency and accuracy to the surgical technique for both surgeons and patients, according to the company. The device makes it easier to learn and perform the procedure consistently. Patients also find the procedure quite easy to tolerate with the corneal template in place.
