Los Alamos, NM-Advanced Refractive Technologies, which develops and markets innovative ophthalmic applications, acquired OptiMetrix Technologies Inc., a subsidiary of UTEK Corp., in a stock transfer.

OptiMetrix owns the exclusive license to a patented technology to detect cataract formation.

Developed at the Los Alamos National Laboratory, the technology uses fiber-optic, OMA-based instrumentation as an in vivo diagnostic tool for the human ocular lens.

Advanced Refractive Technologies is also developing the Accupulse cataract emulsifier, a device that uses pulsed waterjet technology to remove cataracts.
