Menlo Park, CA-Retina expert and inventor Eugene de Juan, MD, will launch a new business devoted to helping develop novel ophthalmic medical devices.

The firm, called ForSight, will be based on an incubator model used by The Foundry, an acclaimed medical device incubator that has jumpstarted nine companies since 1998.

Dr. de Juan, who is professor of ophthalmology, University of Southern California and chief executive officer of the Doheny Retina Institute, will serve as founder and chief executive officer of ForSight. An inventor himself, he has helped to found five separate companies.

ForSight is evaluating ideas from ophthalmic entrepreneurs and will pick one project in which it will provide engineering support and financing until a working model can be established. The incubator will share technical support with The Foundry until it can run independently.
