Lisbon, Portugal – In an effort to create a synergy that will benefit all of the European ophthalmic community, the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons (ESCRS) and the European Society of Retina Specialists (EURETINA) have announced that the ESCRS will assume the administrative duties of the retina society.

The arrangement takes effect this month as the ESCRS administration staff in Dublin, Ireland, assumes the responsibility of EURETINA’S administration duties, including its congress and exhibition management, membership management, and promotion. Under the agreement, EURETINA will continue to operate as separate society.

“The organization of medical societies and congresses has become more complicated,” said Gisbert Richard, secretary general of EURETINA. “We look forward to availing the expertise of the ESCRS secretariat in developing the activities of EURETINA.”

EURETINA’s next congress is set for May 18 to 20, 2006 in Lisbon, Portugal.
