Dr. Haller honored

Ophthalmology Times Editorial Advisory Board member Julia A. Haller, MD, was formally named the first holder of the William Tasman, MD, Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Institute on Sept. 8.

Philadelphia-Ophthalmology Times Editorial Advisory Board member Julia A. Haller, MD, was formally named the first holder of the William Tasman, MD, Endowed Chair in Ophthalmology at the Wills Eye Institute on Sept. 8.

The honor is named for the renowned retina surgeon who was ophthalmologist-in-chief at Wills for 22 years. Dr. Haller has held that title at the Institute since November 2007. She also is professor and chairwoman of the department of ophthalmology at Thomas Jefferson University and one of two directors of the Wills Vision Research Center at Jefferson.

Dr. Haller has published more than 250 papers in the peer-reviewed literature as well as 20 book chapters. She was president of the American Society of Retina Specialists from 2006 to 2008.
