Contact lens business can prosper despite federal law

April 15, 2004

In February, the Fairness to Contact Lens Consumers Act took effect. It mandates that when a prescriber completes a contact lens fitting, the prescriber-whether requested by the patient or not-shall provide to the patient a copy of the contact lens prescription. Also as directed by any person designated to act on behalf of the patient, the provider must verify the contact lens prescription by electronic or other means.
