Beaver Visitec International (BVI) introduces its new Visitec I-Ring Pupil Expander, a single-use iris retraction device for intraoperative small pupil management.

The device is designed to safely expand the iris to increase the surgeon's field of view and improve access to the lens of the eye while protecting the iris.

“We are excited to bring the latest innovation in intraoperative small pupil management to market,” said Tom Kapfer, president and chief executive officer of BVI. “The [device] is a simple, safe, and innovative solution that helps maintain an optimal field of view during ophthalmic surgery without compromising intraocular tissue safety.”

The device is made of soft, resilient polyurethane material that is gentle on intraocular tissue. Insertion, engagement, and removal are single-handed. The fixed channel height prevents pinching of the iris during the insertion and removal steps, and safe positioning holes further protect the iris from potential damage.

Complete (360°) engagement with the iris provides consistent pupil expansion without distortion. The uniform field of view is 6.3 mm, with an aperture shape that helps guide the capsulorhexis. Overall, the learning curve for the surgical team is minimal.
