Bausch & Lomb launches microsurgical system in Europe

Article

Rochester, NY-Bausch & Lomb introduced its microsurgical system for cataract (Stellaris Vision Enhancement System) in the European market at the annual meeting of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in Stockholm, Sweden.

Rochester, NY-Bausch & Lomb introduced its microsurgical system for cataract (Stellaris Vision Enhancement System) in the European market at the annual meeting of the European Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgeons in Stockholm, Sweden.

The system is appropriate for all techniques, particularly 1.8-mm biaxial and 1.8-mm coaxial procedures, according to the company. Features include fluidics management technology that allows surgeons to choose either a flow-vacuum module or an advanced vacuum module; a six-crystal phaco handpiece designed to be ergonomic; a wireless-enabled, dual-linear foot pedal; and a high-definition touch-screen display.

“The system lets surgeons operate at [their] own pace when using smaller incisions, without compromising speed or efficiency, while delivering excellent optical outcomes. It limits complications, reduces the rehabilitation time for the patient, and provides excellent results directly after surgery,” said H. Burkhard Dick, MD, of the Center for Vision Science at Ruhr University, Bochum, Germany. “After more than 50 cases . . . I continue to be impressed.”

The microsurgical system was launched in the United States market in April at the annual meeting of the American Society of Cataract and Refractive Surgery.
