ARVO announces 2008 Weisenfeld recipient

Fort Lauderdale, FL-George O. Waring III, MD, FACS, FRCOphth, has been selected by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) to receive the association's 2008 Weisenfeld Award.

Fort Lauderdale, FL-George O. Waring III, MD, FACS, FRCOphth, has been selected by the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology (ARVO) to receive the association's 2008 Weisenfeld Award. This award, which will be presented at ARVO's annual meeting next spring inFort Lauderdale, FL, is given annually for excellence in ophthalmology.

Dr. Waring is being honored with the award for his leadership in the field of refractive surgery and strict enforcement of scientific principles in his groundbreaking work.

In his profession Dr. Waring has won numerous other awards including, three American Academy of Ophthalmology Honor Awards, the Castroviejo Medal from the Corneal Society, and four awards from the International Society of Refractive Surgery, including the Lifetime Achievement Award.

As a 25-year tenured, clinical professor of ophthalmology at Emory University School of Medicine, Dr. Waring has trained around 75 corneal fellows. He is also editor-in-chief of The Journal of Refractive Surgery and founding surgeon at In View Vision Center in Atlanta. He has taught ophthalmology at more than 600 meetings in more than 60 countries on six continents.
