New Orleans - The American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) is launching EyeBuild and partnering with the New Orleans Area Habitat for Humanity to build houses in the residential areas hit hardest by Katrina.

Between the two sides of New Orleans, the thriving tourist areas such as the French Quarter and the devastated outer neighborhoods such as the lower ninth ward - residents need help.

Arriving a few days early for the AAO meeting can make a big difference. The event is open to all meeting attendees and exhibitors and no special skills or fitness level is required to participate.

Training will take place on site and the dates are Wednesday to Friday, Nov. 7, 8, and 9. Help out for as many days as desired. The day usually starts at 7:30 a.m. and lasts until 3 p.m. The cost is $25 per day and registration can be completed online at www.aao.org or interested participants can download a form to mail.
