Zeroing in on vision-threatening causes of diplopia

During the recent American Academy of Ophthalmology annual meeting in Chicago.

Vivek Patel, MD, took the podium to discuss life- and vision-threatening causes of diplopia.

Patel is a neuro-ophthalmologist and professor of clinical ophthalmology at the University of California-Irvine.

“The aim is to discuss topics within ophthalmology that can lead to sight-threatening or life-threatening problems,” he said. 

Health issues that impact vison can include strokes, multiple sclerosis and other conditions that are not life threatening, but can be sight threatening.

“There are many issues that often go unrecognized, like malnutrition and alcoholism,” he said.
