Three steps to better toric surgery

New at congress, Zeiss Toric Solution is a combination of tools to allow physicians to implant and align toric lenses faster and easier.

The combined solution is designed to provide fast and reliable toric lens surgery to astigmatic patients with increased safety through an integrated workflow that delivers improved diagnostics, the benefits of microincision and assists with accurate implantation.

“Our objective is to provide, not just boxes, but solutions to problems,” said Dr Christian Muller, managing director Acri.Tec GmbH, a Carl Zeiss Meditec company. “In the past, these treatments were more an art than a science. Our toric solution brings everything closer to science, with more predictable outcomes.” Muller highlighted three features that he believes make this possible.

The first is the calculation of Zeiss toric IOLs through Z Calc, an online calculator providing customised results with modifiable sphere and cylinder powers for excellent refractive outcomes.

The second is the advanced toric IOLs offered by Carl Zeiss Meditec: the AT TORBI, a bitoric monofocal lens; and AT LISA, a toric multifocal lens. Both have been designed for sub-2mm microincision surgery to remove the risk of surgery induced astigmatism.

Muller said the third important piece of the solution is the new video supported Z Align tool that enables surgeons to accurately position toric IOLs using an integrated eye tracking system and axis overlay on video.

According to Muller, there has been a steady stream of doctors at the Carl Zeiss Meditec stand, all registering to use the new online calculator.
