Consumers often nap in soft contact lenses

Atlanta-About 84% of soft contact lens wearers nap in their lenses, and more than one-third do so frequently or all the time, according to consumer research conducted by CIBA Vision.

The study, conducted in March 2004 among North American soft contact lens wearers, found 73% of lens wearers would prefer a wearing schedule that includes at least occasional overnight wear, the company said.

For this reason, eye-care professionals should consider prescribing lenses that offer oxygen transmissibility suitable for closed-eye conditions, said Dwight H. Akerman, OD, FAAO, director of professional marketing for CIBA Vision North America.
